The responsibility for such errors lies not only with the priest but also with the bishops who fail to correct or discipline those under their charge. By allowing priests like Marín to publicly question core doctrines—such as the sacramental theology of the priesthood or the Church’s moral teachings on sexuality—without clear correction, bishops risk tacitly endorsing confusion among the faithful. The Code of Canon Law (CIC 273, 392) mandates that bishops oversee the orthodoxy of their clergy, ensuring teachings align with the deposit of faith. Marín’s provocative assertions, including his call for regional popes and his dismissal of the Church’s hierarchical structure as un-evangelical, challenge the divinely guided authority of the Church. When bishops do not address such public dissent, they permit a culture of relativism to grow, where individual priests reshape doctrine to suit personal or cultural agendas, ultimately undermining the Church’s mission to proclaim the truth of Christ as preserved through Scripture, tradition, and the Magisterium.
